Look, this is a historical document. A document that is going to empower a lot of black folks young and old. It’s a testament to our culture, to our enduring legacy on pop culture and a call for us not to shy away from our power. I remember asking a mentor of mine how she keeps going when you just feel like you can’t and she said “I do it for black women, for black people.” And this just reinforced that statement for me as a black women and as a filmmaker. Call her overrated and I’ll just laugh because anyone who says that will never understand that this is a masterclass from a living legend.
