    Another Round

    ★★★★½

“Well… I drink Thursday, Friday and Saturday. And a bit on Sunday. And Wednesday, if there’s a Champions League game on.”

Mads Mikkelsen dances, prances, flips and, in every sense of the word, dominates the triumphant dance sequence in Another Round: the newest project of former-Dogma 95 founder and eclectic Danish director Thomas Vinterberg. It arrives at the finale of a shapeshifting drama that morphs from a harmless comedic premise surrounding drinking culture in Scandinavia, into a severe warning that is as…

A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence

    ★★★½

“What would life be without a shot… or two.”

You’re waiting for a bus. The cold is biting and it’s early in the morning. You stand there, fixed. Looking at your surroundings. Everything is grey. Everything is familiar. You anticipate the glimpse of the bus as it turns the corner. It only exists when you see it. It is late. Again. You hear a pigeon cooing, and look up. You’ve been here before. You’ve always been here. Just waiting. Waiting…

“If I scratch the surface, there’ll be something terrible underneath.”

An unadulterated and revolting body horror experience. This is painfully average up until the climax, which is a riot. I feel like I need a long, cold shower to sober me up from the unexpectedly gruesome turn of events in Yuzna’s Society, which I somehow ended up… loving?!

    Children of the Corn

    ★★

    "Don't be a scaredy cat!"

That Isaac kid was very creepy until he started speaking. Sounded like Draco Malfoy. Children of the Corn joins It (1990) as an audacious but ultimately incapable and lacklustre Stephen King adaptation.

    Green Street Hooligans

    ★½

    Everything wrong with Green Street:
    1. A West Ham fan would never NEVER turn into a Millwall fan.
    2. Football supporters and firms do not hate journalists, if anything they respect them.
    3. Needs to be more Stone Island.
    4. A goal with a net? At a school? In London? No chance😂😂
    5. If anyone said ‘soccer’ in London they wouldn’t have a laugh with said Londoner because said Londoner would’ve ended the conversation and fucked off.
    6. A cockney…

    2001: A Space Odyssey

“I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do.”

I watched this for the first time almost 2 years ago. I didn’t like it. I thought it was boring. But after finally rewatching this science-fiction epic, I can confirm that my original thoughts were plain wrong. Kubrick is my favourite director due to his sheer ambitiousness, terrifically tasteful style as well as a visual and auditory…
