Shane McAvoy’s review published on Letterboxd:
Yet another Disney film afraid to give its heroine any shred of a personality. Raya is a vacant vessel for keeping the copy-paste “collect the five gems” plot moving forward while Awkwafina makes poppin’ and lockin’ jokes. A depressing time! Doesn’t even look that good!
One star for Benedict Wong’s Tong who is a big guy I would like to hang out with and one star because there is a baby who steals things and the subtitles referred to this character as con baby, for example: [con baby giggles] and [con baby coos].
Shoutout and RIP to Johann Johannson whose score for Sicario has influenced/inspired/been ripped-off by countless films and video games of the past ten years. Even in the new Disney animated film, the musical cue for impending doom is just a rip of his iconic sound.
