I’m guilty for not having viewed the beloved 1978 remake so I can’t really compare the two but I can say I love how this film still stands on its own for a solid Science Fiction film made in the 50’s. The premise is interesting and the film moves at an even pace. Even though I found the first few acts sort of bland, it wasn’t due to the pacing, it was the lack of compatible characters and bad performances that doesn’t give this fun film any justice. Kevin McCarthy & the beautiful Dana Wynter shows up and gives me a believable and likable couple to root for but unfortunately I can’t recall a side character with one rememberable scene, which is a bummer considering it’s a small town filled with people who we are supposed to be curious about if they are aliens or human, if I don’t care about these people then what does it matter? I just felt there was no mystery as much as there should be. Nonetheless, the last act is superb. The chase scene is some of the most fun I have had venturing the 50’s decades of film. Truly a classic Sci-Fi that stands strong after so many years.
