An amazingly well directed film, technically a marvel, but all the elements of the film are great as well. Obviously it takes from The Right Stuff, but you've basically got to with this material. Chazelle crafts an enthralling visual experience in the space scenes, the camerawork is so shakey and makes you feel so claustrophobic, and the sound design is overwhelming and ridiculously great. The Armstrong family scenes feel quite like a Malick film, especially in style, Chazelle seems to…
Film of the summer? Does what it sets out to do in a supremely gripping and enjoyable fashion striking a perfect balance between its serious and jokey tone, Singer's classic X-Men tone basically. It's entertaining, its funny, it actually has satisfying character development, it has heart and emotion to it, the performances are strong and delightful, McAvoy and Fassbender especially. It actually feels like a comic book film as opposed to ones that pretend they are but just get the tone all wrong (Amazing Spider Man) or just plain depressing and stupid (Man of Steel). So yeah, er see it!
