I like the way Charlie Hunnam says "I was hoping for a position where I'd see a fair bit of action". That was a highlight. But seriously he's actually pretty good in this.

This is James Gray second great period film after The Immigrant, and while this is maybe not quite as amazing as that, Lost City of Z demonstrates once again Gray's talent for near perfect period detail, an excellent feeling of authenticity and fantastically composed shots. And he just gets performances from his actors that feel so real and emotional.

would be amazing if the lead character wasn't an annoying shit, at least griffin dunne gets to be in the rest of the film (cos he's way more enjoyable). That nightmare sequence with the monster people is the best though.

Film of the summer? Does what it sets out to do in a supremely gripping and enjoyable fashion striking a perfect balance between its serious and jokey tone, Singer's classic X-Men tone basically. It's entertaining, its funny, it actually has satisfying character development, it has heart and emotion to it, the performances are strong and delightful, McAvoy and Fassbender especially. It actually feels like a comic book film as opposed to ones that pretend they are but just get the tone all wrong (Amazing Spider Man) or just plain depressing and stupid (Man of Steel). So yeah, er see it!
