Since this is considered the first ‘action movie,’ you’d think ‘Seven Samurai’ would be innovative, but rudimentary. Humans had to build steam wagons before Model T’s, after all. But Kurosawa slipped ahead and went straight to making a Ferrari 250 GTO.
There’s so much clarity of vision and narrative in ‘Samurai...’ despite being made in a time and culture far distant from 2020 America, it speaks to how true genius transcends all boundaries.
