First Reformed is an utterly captivating examination of faith, despair, the search for happiness, and the need to strike a balance between our spiritual and secular lives. Disobedience emphasizes on the many ways religion & love can cause conflict not only between couples but inner conflict. Finding yourself, the choices & sacrifices we make in love & life were my favorite aspects of the film. The intimate scenes between both rachels were realistic & beautiful. They all do some of their finest work to date. There are some moments in the narrative where it may seem too subtle, but the director always keeps the focus firmly on the characters and their conflicted dilemmas. The movie is a moving and honest exploration of learning to live a life that is truly free.
