    LOVED the first third. Like Terrance Malick on a Miami sun-soaked drug trip. 

    But the melodramatic plot that started with Tyler’s spiral post wrestling injury...felt not only cliche and inauthentic, but like it was served up just to get us to Emily’s arc starting at that party scene.

    AMC Imax aka fake Imax.

    Nice to see Chazelle changing up his visual style (not that Whiplash & La La Land we’re identical, but this is definitely a departure with some echoes of Whiplash) with the claustrophobic handheld shots. Linus Sandgren’s cinamatogprahy is a distinct contribution that helps Chezelle’s First Man take a larger leap away from his musical projects while adding a palpability to the stressful flight/crash sequences. 

    Very interesting that Chazelle didn’t write this one. Helped with First Man…
