A tension study disguised as a heist film, Sexy Beast has all the elements of a traditional British gangster film, while delivering more substance alongside its crass exterior. A hell of a lot of fun and surprisingly lighthearted - well worth a watch, great with a pint and some popcorn.

Brutal and nihilistic, Twentynine Palms is a tone study that punches below the belt. A study on masculinity, the American identity, and a great entry into the New French Extreme category, this is one that is not for the faint of heart but will impress those who tune into its wavelength and don't mind a little gristle.

A carnival noir that showcases some great performances and some incredible world-building, Guillermo Del Toro's Nightmare Alley is a right down the middle Del Toro fantasy that is fun, even if I didn't necessarily care about what it was trying to say or do. Technically impressive, but lacking that element that would make it memorable.

solid short - bit heavy-handed - good cinematography - likely would have improved with more time.

Spielberg delivers a wonderful companion film to 1961 original and has, I have to say, won me over. I had a great time at the cinema last night watching a film that I did not ask for, did not really want, and was kind of determined to be critical of, but got an evening of pure musical cinematic joy that I absolutely loved and genuinely appreciated. Spielberg has, once again, delivered a smash.
