I’ll admit that I was pretty disappointed about this immediately after it finished. However, it has been stuck in my head since seeing it, and it’s really grown on me. I can really appreciate what the Safdie brothers did with this script and characters. They have such an original style that is so unique and exciting. Hopefully Adam Sandler is nominated for an Oscar and KG was shockingly good for a non-actor.
Well-written, well-directed, beautifully shot, a hugely underrated score, and great performances. There were so many subtleties I didn’t notice on my first watch that just added to the film. The omelette scene was definitely my favourite. I love Timothée Chalamet, and I know Gary Oldman is the obvious front-runner, but I would not be upset if Daniel Day-Lewis won best actor. I’ve already seen this twice and I think it’ll just get better with each watch.
