I use this phrase too much for it to continue to have meaning, however, this is legitimately what I believe it's like to watch Cassavetes films in the 21st Century. Almost every second of this is deeply, deeply resonant, and emotionally fraught. Indie darling Deragh Campbell is at her best here; a painful performance. There's a trick she does where she swaps her speech pattern between adult-like around the kids, and kid-like around the adults. I straight up loved this. Check out some poetic waxings over at In the Seats.
