Army of the Dead

Army of the Dead ★★★½

I think seeing this in a theater would emphasize the fact that it looks and feels like schlocky TV to the point of detriment, but that vibe worked for me at home. It’s overstuffed and ugly, but I was charmed by Dave Bautista and Ella Purnell and it was fun to see the trademark Snyder conviction applied to such silly rules. On one hand, the bleak tone is pretty much the opposite of what you want from a *heist film* set in a *zombie-ravaged Las Vegas*; on the other hand, Snyder can’t help but include goofy shit like a zombie tiger and undead that run around like they’re in the Bolshoi ballet. 99% of Netflix movies are unwatchable, but Snyder leans so hard into the disposable  aesthetics that it comes back around to being a good time. Sorry gang I liked this one.
