Dazed and Confused

Dazed and Confused ★★★★½

"Man, I ain't believing that shit about Bonham's one hour drum solo, man. I mean, one hour of drums, you couldn't handle that shit on strong acid, man."

Still the greatest hangout movie. Still the best collection of needle drops used in a film. Still McConaughey's most iconic hammed-up role. Dazed and Confused is Richard Linklater's honest look at adolescent life in a Texas small town during 1976. Much had changed by the time I reached that 'coming of age' period of my life, but I still encountered many similar dynamics to those shown in the film. So for what it's worth, I think Linklater astutely illustrates the relationships between various converging social groups within such a setting. Luckily though, I never experienced the hazing rituals. Those parts play out like a nightmare from an alternate timeline for me.

Now I'm off to try and find some of those Bonham drum solos.
