This is a damn scary movie and not one I am going to rewatch any time soon. I bet if you spent some time unpacking it, it would be fairly deep with unpleasant meditations on the inevitable dissolution of relationships etc ad infinitum but I'd really rather not. Undeniably an excellent film with a fantastic cast and Oliver Reed who apparently has several ice cream headaches.
This is a fantastic movie to use to teach the different crafts in filmmaking. See how each actor seems to gather him or herself At the beginning of each scene, then deliver their lines? That’s poor editing. See how the line delivery is universally wooden and the poses unnatural? That’s bad directing. Notice how there’s a lot of centered framing and not much variety in the shots? Bad cinematography. Utterly uninspiring sets? Production design ignored. Bonkers, marginally believable wardrobe that…
