This is right up my alley and I thought it was pretty dope. I wanted to really love it more but my biggest issue was... *sigh*... Kiki Layne. Every time she spoke it took me right out of it because her lines almost never sounded organic. But everyone else's did. I noticed this with her in Beale Street but everyone else delivered lines differently than they normally would so it didn't stick out. I'm not saying Barry Jenkins had everyone change their speech cadence to fit Kiki's, just that it worked for that movie... but not this one. The other 2 roles I've seen her in wasn't enough to know for sure if it's an actor problem or a director problem but yeeeesh.
Anywho, this was fun. I hope we get to explore this universe some more.
