Tim Maloney’s review published on Letterboxd:
Sometimes just in the opening scenes of a movie, you just know you're about to watch a masterpiece by how it's paced, the camera movements and one of the greatest actors in history in center frame. That's all you need to know to set up something extraordinary. This did not disappoint and easily earns a spot as one of my favorite movies. Michael Mann is a legend, a well deserved reputation too.
Add-on: I feel like this is the kind of movie The Departed should have been. Slow-paced and careful with spurts of brief but brutal violence. This might be long yet it's not in the telling but in the characters who are endlessly complex and tough to figure out.
