Told from the perspective of a man in a mental asylum talking to a priest. The set up enough is intriguing, and Forman perfectly balances the exploration into this character’s mind and soul.

Really sad. Really dirty. The thing about films that reflect reality is that they don’t have an ending, which evidently worked perfectly for this film. The Safdies handled this content with the respect it does deserve and the dignity it doesn’t, a brutal depiction of addiction.

Despite the subject matter, this ended up being a beautiful movie. This film showed the vulnerabilities of life as a hustler, and Baker once again has given a voice to the marginalised.

The same quality of something a broadcaster would whip up and have ready for a rain delay. Remembering the milestones, spending 10 minutes analysing the ball of the century, gloss over his controversy’s, and cap it off with a fairytale finish. They couldn’t help themselves by the end, talking of his charity work and saying he should be knighted. No mention of his dodgy charity that spent all the money on parties and poker tournaments.
