This was fucking great!  Normally these serpentine crime epics confuse me, but this is more like one long detailed action, and not confusing at all.  The acting is great, the direction is great, and the level of detail to evvvvvvery step is very exciting.  King of the procedurals!

A porn-shop-booth stripper and a lady who was protesting the porn store get trapped inside during a Biblical Apocalypse.
They have to stop judging each other and accept themselves in order to escape.

That is a great hook, but this movie just couldn't pull it off. The actresses are mostly good, but some times not convincing. The sets look kind of cheap. The demons and monsters look pretty cool given this budget! And the ending is confusing. One of those "80s Throwbacks" that seemed more concerned with the synths and font than anything else, but still was kind of fun.

I have certainly softened on this over the years. I have grown to appreciate the action and new characters, plus watching it with my daughter tonight helped, since kids like everything.

You know what part bothered me the most this time?  Ray Winstone’s character.  Literally had no reason to be there!

We watched this for breakfast.  I mean we also ate food, but this was on.

This is where you can see the origins of George Lucas’ obsession with origins.  Indy gets, like, ALL of his trademark things in about fifteen minutes?!?  And then we acted surprised when this same guy came up with “midichlorians?”

But I love the rest of it too much, it’s just great.  Some of Spielberg’s best action scenes!

A very terrific Yuen Biao and Cynthia Rothrock martial arts action movie.  There are plenty of great fights, amazing stunts, funny moments, and even a little ACAB.  I took off half a star because I found its few random moments of brutality and darkness a little too much of an off-putting bummer.

But MAN those fights!  A guy fights several cars in a parking structure and it is incredible.

Tiger Claws III: The Final Conflict

    ★★★

This one had to kill off Cynthia Rothrock because she was pregnant and couldn’t do it.  That missing piece is felt throughout, but the villains are a wild enough idea that it’s still fun!

Basically three ancient evil Kung Fu masters are summoned to New York City, put on silly black outfits, and tear shit up.  There’s an older guy in charge, a tough hot lady, and a big quiet strongman type.  They’re basically a B-movie version of General…

Way too slow in the first half, then takes a huge weird left turn and becomes more fun.  I did like the development for Bolo Yeung’s character.  And the white guys with ponytails and goatees who looked so similar that they had to give one of them an eyepatch.

So I guess I had a Nancy Allen double feature!

Still the chillest sexiest crime-iest thing.  Love it

And who hasn't been so distracted by thoughts of steaks that they accidentally shot themselves in the ol’ noggin?

A paranoid and voyeuristic thriller.  Travolta is terrific here, and Nancy Allen is charming, and Lithgow is insane.

Lots of cool camera shots and, since this is about a movie sound guy, the sound design rules.

I bet this is a very good double feature with THE CONVERSATION.

The set pieces feel kind of contrived and artificial, whereas the scenes in RAIDERS feel natural. That said though, the set pieces are still pretty awesome!

Loses a little steam towards the end, but massively entertaining and funny and subversive.  Michael Moriarty is so odd and perfect here!  Didn’t like the little kid’s eyes though.

This viewing stressed me out (of course), but also made me really miss living in New York City, despite my never having hung out in the Diamond District or with basketball dudes or gamblers
