A story about a dad who cures his son's cancer by giving him an ape heart that transforms the son into a murdering ape rapist, with a backdrop of the Mexican female wrestling scene. Featuring footage of actual heart surgery and child endangerment. It wasn't boring.
I don't normally review rewatches, but good lord Odin was this an entertaining, garish, hokey ass good time. A complete and utter mess, edited like absolute shit, enjoyable to high hell. Haven't watched it in years and I'm kind of sad I didn't enjoy it properly the first time. The director of SIMON BIRTCH really fails upward with glory here and I apologize for not seeing the light till now.
Why the hell did we never get a Sam Elliot Ghost Rider Western???
Kevin Smith said it best...this is the world's biggest Kevin Smith fan film by the world's biggest Kevin Smith fan.
It's an unrelenting barage of insider callbacks and references. Is it well crafted? Not his best by far. Does it have heart? Yup.
I guess the question is, do you have something against a filmmaker in 2020 making movies for his own personal audience? If not, this is for you.
