  • Paterson

Sometimes slow burning movies appeal to me in ways that others don't. It allows characters to shine, performances to pop and Adam Driver as Paterson is a great example of this.

It's the story of the mundane nature of life, but finding those small passions and people to make it all worth it and that appeals to me.

    I am........underwhelmed?

There has been a lot of hype around this for the last few months and I bought into it. There are a few good elements here.

Brad is good, Leo is also pretty good. Margot Robbie is not in it enough for me to really be too impressed by her performance. I find the performances good, but they don't really leave me with any lasting impression.

The ending is what makes it all worth it and it's not…

Michael Shannon is great in this drama about a man who sees nothing but disaster around him, disaster that isn't actually happening. Jessica Chastain, in one of her earliest movies is his wife, trying to balance her husband and deaf daughter who has medical problems of her own and she's also quite good.

The whole thing is slow burning, but the good kind of slow burning that really allows the performances to shine through.

Such a lift from Scream 3, the gore is lifted up ten fold. The story still works, even in the era of smart phones and caller ID and the twist ending is one of the best.

The lighting is weird in the outdoor scenes and the classroom scenes which was a little distracting.

I love that even after seeing this and knowing who the killer is (who would think that it would be that person?) that this can still provide enough thrills to be well worth another watch.

Excellent world building, good characters, good action scenes, and an overall interesting concept makes this so great in terms of scifi movies and movies in general. Glad I chose this as my first watch of the year.
