Disguised as an absurdist internet skit, OPAL blossoms into a heartbreaking story of belonging and abuse. Fantastic songs, effectively emotional score, unique animation style, and a story that just gets better with each rewatch. I can’t recommend this enough. My 2nd favorite release of 2020.

    Zoë Kravitz LOVES this one…

Hard to judge this film. It’s technically flawless, well acted, uniquely and well edited, great cinematography & directing; it really comes down to how you judge film in general to say whether it’s “good” or “bad.” I really enjoyed it and was able to connect to it emotionally. Pretend That You Love Me

Though pretty good and creative as a no-budget YouTuber-made film, Joel Haver has made it clear that he wants his work to be taken seriously. So I’ll be treating it as a normal movie.

For the most part, it doesn’t look great. Shots look different between cuts, color wise, autofocus seems to be on in some shots, many lights blow out the image, etc. It looks like a student film shot on an iPhone. There are definitely some shots that…
