Todd Russell’s review published on Letterboxd:
Rewatching and learning to appreciate the subtle and sometimes extreme differences between this from the twisted mind of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka vs. the more complex novel by Roald Dahl vs the original classic movie adaption.
The music is better in the original and having only the same Oompa Loompa in this one vs. many different tiny actors is weird and doesn't really work.
Johnny Depp is bizarre in this role, but I think Roald Dahl would have enjoyed Depp's portrayal (I prefer Wilder), had he lived to see it. Dahl was so disgusted with the original Willy Wonka adaption differences from his novel that he refused to allow and sequels to be made. I would recommend the original over this one, but this one gets better with repeat watches.
