Todd Russell’s review published on Letterboxd:
For those who enjoyed Rocky IV this has all kinds of familiarity. Essentially, it is a retelling of that movie as a sequel to Creed. The son of Apollo Creed, Adonis, fights to win the heavyweight title, only to have the son of the Russian Bull, Ivan Drago, challenge him.
Rocky tries to get Adonis not to fight Drago, saying it is a bad idea. It's like when Rocky tried to tell Apollo the same thing in the Exhibition fight in Rocky IV only to lead to tragic results.
I wanted to see Ivan Drago and Rocky Balboa trade fists again. Apparently there was a scuffle, but it was deleted from the film. This movie has actual boxing announcers calling the fight, so it adds to the authenticity of these being actual boxing matches. Saw this in the theater originally and rewatched on Amazon Prime. Recommended.
