Todd Russell’s review published on Letterboxd:
Sara (Kate Beckinsale) and Jonathan (John Cusack) meet by chance buying some gloves. There is a spark and they share a fun evening together but only know each other's first names. Sara believes in serendipity and writes her full name and number inside a book. She plans to leave it a book store and if Jonathan should find it they are meant to be together. Jonathan writes his name and number on a $5 bill. And so begins the obsession for Jonathan to try and find the book and learn more about Sara. They both become engaged to other people but keep thinking about each other. Will serendipity bring them back together?
This reminds me somewhat of Sleepless in Seattle. Only there Tom Hanks is grieving and trying to get over his wife and wonders if he can ever find love again, where here the main focus is if either person is about to marry is "the one."
Not an original story, but somehow the magic never gets as old as it should. The chemistry between Cusack and Beckinsale is good, selling the romance well. Recommended.
