I had a good time watching "The Untouchables," but it's less than the sum of its parts. Costner, Connery, and Garcia are great. Parasite 2019
I just love this movie. While not a perfect comparison, the strengths of this movie remind me a lot of the strengths of Vertigo: the themes of the story are reinforced through complementary setting and cinematography. By the time the strings of the knot start to tighten, you've been primed from every direction to think, "Oh! OH!" That requires a lot of coordination from a lot of motivated and smart people, and I really appreciate it.

Ida Lupino does a great job directing, but the lack of any real star appeal or vivid characterization of the main three characters leaves something strong to be desired. It's hard to make a nihilist noir movie without a romance or cool persona to grab onto, and this movie hits the wall in that regard.
