A remarkably brave and personal film from Jennifer Fox, The Tale’s story of repressed childhood trauma is sobering in it’s honesty. Though I feel that the execution can be a little uneven by the end of this movie there was a real sense of catharsis. Idk, I don’t feel right being too critical of a film that’s so intimately tied to it’s creator’s own personal experiences. All I’ll say is that even though The Tale’s content can often be hard to watch, the performances are largely great, with Laura Dern absolutely killing it.
