This could have been so great. The cast is solid, we know the director is capable of excellent work (47 Meters Down) and The Strangers is one of the most intense horror films of the 2000s that deserved a franchise and never got one. But several things went wrong here: the decision to change from a home-invasion story to a more standard slasher, the faux-80's retro soundtrack and visual choices, and a fundamental change in the killers' affect and M.O. There was plenty to enjoy, but you can't help but be a little disappointed.
And who the hell told Adrian Johnston he could get away with shamelessly ripping off the theme from The Fog?
