In the Mood for Love

In the Mood for Love ★★★★★

“That era has passed. Nothing that belonged to it exists anymore.”

Intimacy and love being restrained and kept from fully forming. Feelings of love quickly turning into regret. Regret of being unable to act on your feelings. Or even realizing that you do have feelings before it’s too late. Passion being able to come out of restraint. Wong Kar-wai‘s direction shows this distance. It never gets to personal and intimate. Showing just how far these people are and how they can’t be close. There’s a choose t have many of the events that are shown or talked about be birthdays. Showing how quickly time passes. How quick it can be over. How in the end maybe we should just act on those feelings. Despite what right or socially correct.
