Tom Charman’s review published on Letterboxd:
The film feels kind of like there's a big, high-concept science fiction blockbuster happening off-screen somewhere, and we're just watching the story of how it affected normal people. Which I love.
And as if that wasn't enough, with amazing lightness of touch, it sketches crazy technology without getting bogged down in any embarrassing technobabble. Things just work, and the film doesn't concern itself with how, which is really refreshing. The special effects were seamless and beautiful. Joaquin Phoenix is pretty amazing in a movie that spends a lot of time right up in his face.
It also made me kind of nostalgic for flippy phones. Maybe they'll come around again.
