I was surprised by how great this film was. The cast was terrific, especially Christopher Plummer. Wow, what a performance! Michele Williams and Mark Wahlberg were also very strong. Ridley Scott's direction was sharp and tense, enhancing the great screenplay. I am crossing my fingers that this gets a few Oscar nods.
"Robocop" is really great. It feels like a classic comic book throughout. Robocop is an awesome hero, with a cool origin and amazing design. The action is bloody and over-the-top, but it fits in well with this flashy vision of the future. The effects are also impressive, especially with the ED-209. The story is a clever satire of American culture of the 1980s, and feels like something from the pen of Frank Miller (ironic, since he went on to write the screenplays for the sequels). Overall, this is one of best action films of its decade. It's smart, entertaining, and pleasing to the eye.
