Uneven chaos, and seemingly accidentally great. Every frame of this film with Kong or a monster is absolute glorious bliss. The human element is mostly bad, but provides a whole lot of fodder. John C. Reilly seems to be the only person who knows exactly what film he’s in. Every needle drop is embarrassingly obvious, and the first 25-30 minutes are actively awful. I love Kong and this movie has such a great and huge Kong who throws trees through choppers and can see the killing potential of any object he sees.
