Tampopo

Tampopo ★★★★½

I ate just before watching the film and now I’m hungry again. Fuck you movie!

From the very first scene to the last, I was excited to see what was coming next. The film starts of with some metacommentary which instantly gives the film a lighthearted and self-aware feel. This sense of easiness carries on throughout the film and that made it such an entertaining and refreshing experience. It felt like everyone involved in making this was having a great time and that transferred onto me very much. The main narrative is broken with small sketches, all related to food in different ways (hedonism, elitism etc.). None of these stories are in any ways related to the main narrative, but instead of feeling jarring, for me they just added into the playful tone and made the film even more delightful.
