    Boogie Nights

    ★★★★½

Boogie Nights was my first ever Paul Thomas Anderson film, and this sealed the deal that I need to watch more of them, right now. The atmosphere of the 70s to the intricate development of multiple different characters then seeing it all come together is just superb. I need to give a special shout out to Molina and the rest of the cast and crew involved in the “drug deal” scene, it’s one of my favorite moments in film, and is masterfully crafted by PTA. This is a true classic that needs to be watched by any film enthusiast, for sure.

House of Gucci is very good, but I wanted to love it so much more. My biggest complaint is that with a 2 hour 38 minute runtime, you really feel it, I wish the pacing was a bit quicker or some scenes were tighter. The production design is beautiful, obviously. The soundtrack for the first hour of the film is phenomenal, then merged into a very modest score for a majority of the remainder of the film. Driver, Gaga, and Pacino…

Clark Griswald was a hero of mine.

…except Clark Griswald was a fictional character created for comedic purposes, who didn’t sue his own neighbors like a psychopath. This man is actually insane. This is new wave horror and it’s legitimately terrifying that this is a true story.

Need to give credit to one of the neighbors for the best quote of the whole documentary:
How do you put a fart back in once it’s come out?

  • Deck the Halls

    Deck the Halls

    ★★

Deck the Halls is a really weird one because it tries so hard to stay so close to a traditional Christmas movie, but the problem is that it feels so forced. Not to mention the casting choices are just plain odd. This one feels like someone said, “Hey we need a Christmas movie made, which actors are available?”. Casting choices aside, the plot is a little silly… Slightly obnoxious new neighbor keeps putting lights on their house because they want it to be seen from space… and that’s pretty much the movie.

Marvel’s Eternals is very different from other MCU titles, but it’s a really good movie with a strong plot and deep character development. Some of the best solo film character development in the MCU. Definitely a Chloé Zhao film, which some people may be unfamiliar with, but it’s a fresh take in the MCU. Not sure if it’s because I was expecting something way worse due to the early critic reviews, but I really enjoyed it! Both post credit scenes are so…

For what this was, it was beautiful. Taylor Swift has really come a long way and this felt like some of her best work yet.
