Alluringly mysterious and eerily elusive, 2001: A Space Odyssey is and remains cinema’s eternally lovely enigma. I’ll reference those incredible, gravity defying tracking shots to sum up my feelings toward this film as a whole: I simply have no idea how he does it, and I don’t want to know how he does it. I’m more than content to bask again and again in the wonder and mystery of Kubrick’s interstellar masterpiece, the picture that is, perhaps more than any other, truly the black monolith of cinema.
