Hiawatha's Rabbit Hunt ★★

This is included as part of "Warner Night at the Movies 1941", a collection of short subjects presented on Warner's DVD release of The Maltese Falcon.

The title alone was more or less a caution that the content will not have aged well, and sure enough...it hasn't. There's certainly nothing inherently offensive about Bugs Bunny outsmarting his hunter. And there's nothing intrinsically offensive about Hiawatha being that hunter, though it does require Hiawatha to be shown up since Bugs is our protagonist.

But then come the inevitable stereotypes of 1941, including Bugs Bunny mocking Hiawatha with a "war whoop" and deceiving him in "disguise" as a fellow Native American speaking broken English and offering the greeting "How". UGH.

I did get a chuckle out of the very last moment, in which Hiawatha turned the tables on Bugs and planted a kiss on him.
