I'm torn on this film. On one hand, it's a terribly charming musical with wonderful costumes and a host of colorful characters. Gigi is a great character, and I wish that she had more screentime, but on the other hand I'm torn between how to feel about the plot in general. Cute? Creepy? Gah! I'm not sure. It's resting in that valley in between.
What an incredibly beautiful film! After quite the cinematic dry spell, I've never been so quenched (pun absolutely intended.). "The Shape of Water", I believe, is what you get when you mix "The Creature From the Black Lagoon" with "Amelie", and boy, did it work. I think one of the reasons that this film struck me the way it did was of how both of the main characters captivated the audience without ever speaking a word at all. Not only…
