Stalker ★★★★½

It's worth the hype.

One of the most surreal, spiritual, and unnerving experiences I've had with a film. Cinematography and sets are unreal, algae and chemical spillage look beautiful, and I mean, they literally "died" for these shots.

I'd say the last forty-five minutes are seriously perfect but the first hour bugged me. I've tried watching this movie multiple times in the past four years and each time stopped within the first hour. He could've picked up the pace, and the slowness worked eventually, but it just irked me then.

Also a lot of the dialogue was way too on the nose. At times it felt less like characters interacting and more Tarkovsky banally spelling out his own themes. But the dialogue was incredibly effective by the end.

Despite my complaints, it's still so unique and haunting that everyone should experience it.
