The Proposition 2005
The dichotomy between beautiful country and ugly grit is more on display in this film than any other that comes to memory. It's a western that refuses to shy away from the colonial brutality that is often lacking in the genre. Overall a solid film with solid performances, great cinematography, and killer score. But in the end, it felt a bit lackluster.

Sound of Metal 2019
Phenomenal and heartbreaking film. I didn't know Cianfrance was involved until the credits, but then it all made sense. The film is tragic, but ultimately about growth. The cinematography and sound design are insanely good and Ahmed knocks it out of the park. Loved the ending.

Nightcrawler 2014
Sweet Jesus, Jake Gyllenhaal brings it in this film as Louis Bloom. I was completely convinced that he was a sociopath from his gaze that holds for just a little too long, to his highly analytical and fast talking dialogue that just sounds like Bloom is attempting to sound normal, to his love for matriarchal figures that he can manipulate. Actually, scratch that, he is somehow able to manipulate every single person in this film.
It shouldn't be a surprise…

The Pervert's Guide to Ideology 2012
Although I don't agree with everything that Slavoj Žižek has to stay, it is hard for me not to love the guy and extend a friendly wipe of the nose and tug of the shirt in solidarity.
And so on and so on.
