    Ghostbusters

    The new GHOSTBUSTERS is a fun ride. It pretty much follows the same exact formula as the original classic, set in a universe where the original '84 GHOSTBUSTERS doesn't exist, so that was a little disheartening, but the cameos were pretty cool. A good popcorn & soda movie, for sure.

    I watched SCARLET STREET a while back during my hardcore film noir phase, and I always got its plot mixed up with another Ed G. Robinson classic, WOMAN IN THE WINDOW, since I watched them back-to-back. But watching this again (thanks, Kino Lorber, for the copy!) man, what a fantastic and utterly heartrending story!!     Innovative way of shooting a film (the whole "12 years in the making" thing), and great Linklater dialog, but outside of that, if it were a book, it wouldn't be all that much of a page-turner.

    Next to GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, this is one of the more interesting comic book "superhero" movies I've watched. Now I get the whole lure of the "R-rated superhero film" –– it's the only way the filmmakers could've captured Deadpool's character as perfectly as they did. I even had a few laugh out loud moments, and I love the fact that it's very self-aware and super meta.
