Peter Spencer’s review published on Letterboxd:
OH...MY...GOD!!!
From the visual director of Watchmen and Sucker Punch comes this explosive, second instalment to Man of Steel.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice....was amazing! Director Zack Snyder pulled together all his visionary and style to bring us this exciting superhero film, where we see two iconic superheroes go head to head for the first time in many years.
And Ben Affleck; he was MADE for this part. He was brilliant as Batman, even better than Christian Bale was. This version of Batman was older, rugged, slightly cynical.
I'll be honest with the rest of the cast though, I did had my doubts with cast announcement; Gal Gadot, Jeremy Irons and Jesse Eisenberg as Wonder Woman, Alfred and Lex Luthor respectfully. Personally, I think the cast suitable for those roles would've been Gina Carano, John Hurt and either Michael Fassbender, Oscar Isaac or James Franco. With that said; after seeing the film and that chosen casts' performance, my opinions changed, save for Eisenberg. To be honest though, his performance as Luthor was sadly awful. Didn't think his performance was good. If they were trying to portray Luthor as coco for coco-pops, with a slight humour, then James Franco would've been best suited for the role. But I always thought Lex Luthor in the mainstream comics as brilliant yet egotistic, and if they stuck to that version then the roles for that Luthor would've been for either Michael Fassbender of Oscar Isaac (as they both worked with Zack Snyder in his previous films).
My other critique was that Jena Malone was cast as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl in the film, but her appearance was never shown. I bet Malone was pissed about that, just as Snyder was disappointed about it.
Now that that's out of the way, the positive; awesome cast, awesome special effects, awesome storyline; black vs blue, night vs day, fear vs hope, bat vs super!
And of course, mind blowing action! Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is clearly a Spring Blockbuster this year.
What I experience while watching the film:
Eye-popping
Jaw-dropping
Breath-taking
Edge of my seat
And points that I rate this film for:
