Once upon a Tom... in Hollywood’s review published on Letterboxd:
They're smarter, they're faster, they're organized. Straight out of your fucking nightmares. You all keep talking about the city like it's their prison. It's not. It's their kingdom.
If you spend even a moment thinking about the central plot twist of this movie, the entire premise falls apart. So I guess the best review I can give what is honestly a pretty fun and engaging zombie/heist picture is to just roll with it and don't think about it. Like... AT ALL.
I give Zack Snyder points for returning to his Dawn of the Dead roots (still his best film), mixing in a little Oceans 11 aesthetic, and making about the most perfect use of The Cranberries's Zombie that I ever could've hoped for. But I take away points for a horrid screenplay and a tacked-on stinger ending that I really could've lived without. Overall, though, it's still enjoyable enough for its target audience and worthy of a Mild Recommend. Streaming now on Netflix.
