Once upon a Tom in Hollywood’s review published on Letterboxd:
We’re self-employed now.
What’s your job?
Chucking mud at those cows.
Taika Waititi seems to just totally get what I’m looking for in a movie. This coming-of-age comedy set in an impoverished Maori village in rural New Zealand is tinged with just the right mix of drama, emotion, anxiety, and absurdity. Working with a mostly amateur cast and a very low budget, Waititi somehow made this into a really good little film. Recommended.
