Once upon a Tom in Hollywood’s review published on Letterboxd:
"Donnie Darko." What the hell kind of name is that? It's like some sort of superhero or something.
What makes you think I'm not?
This cult classic, genre-defying indie icon has a storyline that I'll probably never fully understand... and I couldn't care less. The aesthetic of this thing is just absolutely perfect. From sublime 80s high school nostalgia (including an absolutely dynamite soundtrack), to realistic and emotionally engaging family dynamics (featuring the real-life Gyllenhaal siblings), to a surreal three-way marriage of scientific theory, time travel and super powers (?), this film just *gets* me. Plus, it's a fantastic Halloween season watch. Very Highly Recommended.
