Ari Aster's previous film, Hereditary, could be summarized thusly: With a family like this, who needs murderous occultists? Aster's sophomore feature, which I think I actually enjoyed better, basically takes that concept and flips it on its head. The two films act as perfect complements of each other without a single shared reference point or hamfisted crossover. It's simply baked into the DNA. If you enjoyed Hereditary, you're going to like Midsommar too. Really good performances by Florence Pugh and some guy that's basically Chris Pratt Jr. Recommended.
