The Holy Mountain

The Holy Mountain ★★★★½

9/10

Pretentious.

I absolutely adore the direction Jodorowsky took to make this 'masterpiece' of his. It was incredibly playful with its construction of ideas but here's the thing: I think the film is pretentious. And I also hate the fact that it's so tiring to watch because it doesn't let you breathe and absorb that much. What it does is give away all these ideas or concepts to the point where your brain is just trying its best to contain them. Once I called The Holy Mountain a 'museum' where someone guides you through the whole thing and there's literally a big give away of information then ends with 'on to the next one'. Despite these criticisms, like I said, I still like it very much. There's a lot to explore, but many felt 'off' I must say.
