1917

1917 ★★★★★

1917 is my favorite film of this past year and (possibly) my only 5 star review. It’s a technical achievement with homage to early Hitchcock. It’s war imagined in the most realistic and grizzly detail since Saving Private Ryan. It’s a clean, concise nerve-wracking experience that we just simply don’t get often anymore. This comes with one of the highest recommendations I can give a film, and would encourage all of you, even those who only get to the theatre a few times a year, to make this a film you see on the big screen. I hope for a big night at the Oscars for Sam Mendes’ film.
