Stanley Scorsese’s review published on Letterboxd:
Guy Ritchie is back at it again with his new film Wrath of Man and it is packed with so much action, surprises, and an unexpected plot with serious settings. But is it a very well made and enjoyable film? Let’s find out!
Wrath of Man is the new film from Guy Ritchie and it follows a mysterious man who works as a guard in a cash truck company. But he has a revenge plan to settle the score against the people who killed his son in a cash truck robbery.
Alright guys, I just got back from watching the all new movie by Guy Ritchie today and I will say I had an awesome time! Although I will say it doesn’t have his signature style of snappy dialogue, quirky characters, and action sequences. This is a straight up dead serious action flick with a revenge plot and a nonlinear storyline! It also feels like a Quentin Tarantino film with that too except it doesn’t have snappy dialogue, memorable characters, or an incredible soundtrack. But I will admit this was an unexpected surprise! Bravo, Mr. Ritchie! Now let’s talk about the movie.
This has an awesome cast! You got Jason Statham, Josh Hartnett, Holt McCallany, Jeffery Donovan, and Scott Eastwood. Statham plays Patrick Hill, a guy on a path of revenge after his son was killed in a cash truck robbery and he hatched a plan to find the people responsible for murdering him. McCallany plays Bullet, a man who’s experienced in the job and takes Patrick under his wing on the job. But after a failed robbery attempt, Bullet sees Patrick as being a highly skilled marksman. Donovan plays Jackson, a guy who runs a crew of former soldiers from the military to rob cash trucks for a living and successfully finishing the jobs. Until they killed the wrong kid and death followed them!
This might be a hit and miss for movie fanatics, but this is Ritchie still at his finest! After seeing The Gentlemen last year, I was excited to see more new films from the filmmaker. But that’s when COVID-19 had everything to a halt so it was a hard blow to all of us. But we all know how devastating it was so I don’t have to go any further. So anyway, this isn’t up there with Snatch, The Gentlemen, or Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, but I can admit this is an incredibly fun and action-packed film that will excite fans like you!
I’ve had an unexpectedly awesome time with Wrath of Man, and I can assure you that with my birthday coming up in a few months I can definitely go out and buy this on Blu-ray. Hopefully it will come out in August! If any of you who’s reading this are fans of Guy Ritchie or if you’re fans of action flicks, I definitely think you should go see it in theaters!
I’m giving Wrath of Man 4 stars!
