The Seasons in Quincy: Four Portraits of John Berger ★★★★

After suffering through so many documentaries on brilliant artists that take the most simplistic path to their goal, what a relief to finally see one that takes up the challenge of its subject and meets him half-way. A series of four mini-docs, each produced by a different team during different time periods at Berger's home in Quincy, each focusing on a different aspect of the man -- not really doing more than touch on his wide-raging career as a writer, instead delving directly into the subjects that inspired him, giving you an impression of the man without directing you how to think about him. In that way it mirror's Berger's own authorial tactics, making for a documentary far more suited to him than a mere Wikipedia-in-motion ever could be.
