True Lovecraftian Cinema

The term Lovecraftian has become extremely overused to describe any horror film that involves the ocean or sea monsters, so I wanted to put together a list of movies that truly showcase what Lovecraft’s work and cosmic horror in general is all about. Themes of humanity’s insignificance, fear of the unknown and ancient alien entities indifferent to the existence of mankind, not just Cthulhu-like monsters and tentacles.

This list is all movies directly influenced by Lovecraft’s themes and ideas, direct adaptations of his work or just adaptations of work similar to Lovecraft’s.
