    The Amazing Catfish

Incredible, heart-wrenching film about the family you choose. Every character is whole, and every moment is understated. I picked this because of the poster, which gives off major Little Miss Sunshine vibes. I was glad to see that this film has its own voice. The writing feels personal and intimate, making the family drama "cliche" feel fresh. I was impressed when I learned that this is Claudia Sainte-Luce's debut. Her films definitely deserve more love.

This Mexican film marks the end of my March Around the World challenge. I can't believe I actually completed it and added five female-directed bonuses. I had a great time.

    The Breaker Upperers

A lighthearted movie about two women who are in the business of breaking up with your partner for you.Β Intriguing premise, but uneven execution. It felt like a minor Bridesmaids (i.e. has funny improv moments, focused on female friendship). It started strong but I didn't care in the end. However, the karaoke sequence made me laugh so much I had to replay it twice.

How about - crystal meth, nitrous oxide, a brand new Cadillac with the pink slip

The best thing about this is the subtle likening of Old Hollywood to an idealized relationship. It's nostalgia for something that wasn't real, and that's why it's heartbreaking.
